Supply-Chain CSR Deployment Guidebook
As part of its corporate philosophy of contributing to society by creating the "best possible company," the Hitachi Metals Group proactively pools its knowledge and technology in the quest to resolve social issues and make solid contributions to society on the strength of its business endeavors.
Toward that end, in 2006 we formulated our "Code of Conduct for Hitachi Metals Group Companies"—a mission statement structured to effectively reflect this corporate philosophy in concrete principles for proper behavior. The new code of conduct combined the traditional conduct code with the shared awareness of social responsibilities with stakeholders, forging solid ties of trust, and other aspects of CSR thinking. It therefore also effectively serves as the Hitachi Metals Group’s CSR action guidelines.
We followed that in 2010 by enacting even more detailed rules to govern CSR—namely, "Good Practice Guidance for Hitachi Metals Group Companies." That policy is now used to promote vigorous CSR initiatives throughout the Group as a whole.
The "Hitachi Metals Procurement Policy" and "Hitachi Metals Group Purchasing Transaction Code of Conduct" ,which we use to guide materials procurement—were built on a foundation of keen consideration for the aforementioned codes. Based on these guiding principles, Hitachi Metals maintains a solid awareness and a firm commitment to fulfill its appropriate role as a responsible corporate citizen.
Today, as the issues facing society grow more diversified and global in nature, and intense interest is focused on the business stances companies adopt, the roles corporate entities must play in their efforts to achieve a sustainable society have expanded to an unprecedented degree.
Against this dynamic backdrop, the Hitachi Metals Group Supply-Chain CSR Deployment Guidebook has been compiled with the purpose of enhancing mutual understanding with our valued suppliers, while providing a useful reference for the Group’s CSR initiatives. We respectfully request that our suppliers collaborate by establishing their own thorough knowledge of and compliance with the matters the guidebook addresses.
Hitachi Metals believes that sharing the profound awareness of our social responsibilities and the execution of those duties with our suppliers—vital partners in the context of our business activities—is essential to paving the way to mutual prosperity for our supply chain as a whole, and the fulfillment of our responsibilities as a member of society.
Accordingly, we pledge to continue to do everything in our power to build strong and lasting partnerships, striving from a long-term perspective to uphold and improve ties of mutual understanding and trust. As we take this important direction, we request your renewed endorsement of our position and intentions, and your redoubled support and understanding so crucial to helping ensure our mutual prosperity and progress for many years to come.
