To play a central R&D role in Asia, Singapore is actively encouraging collaborative research and field-testing projects involving the government, businesses and research institutes. Metal additive manufacturing R&D led by SIMTech is one of the areas of focus under this initiative.
Hitachi Metals conducts R&D in metal additive manufacturing technologies, and metal powders employed in additive manufacturing at its Global Research and Innovative Technology Center (GRIT), a new corporate research lab established in April 2017 to drive the creation of new, next-generation businesses that will accelerate the company’s medium and long-term high-tech material R&D to serve society and realize sustainable growth. Hitachi Metals also actively pursues an open innovation model in partnership with domestic and overseas research institutes, academic institutions, and businesses.

SIMTech-Hitachi Metals Additive Manufacturing Joint Lab is tasked with driving the development of next-generation metal additive manufacturing technologies by combining SIMTech’s world-leading metal additive manufacturing capabilities, and high-tech materials manufacturer Hitachi Metals’ metal powder development know-how. It is anticipated that the new joint R&D body will further promote open innovation, and give birth to market-leading products and solutions.
