Introducing the lineup for the NH-WEP Series of
halogen-free extra high voltage cables for rolling stocks

Hitachi Cable introduces the lineup for the NH-WEP Series, which uses halogen-free extra high voltage cables for rolling stocks. We successfully produced halogen-free electrical wires and cables for rolling stocks using in-house technologies to incorporate covering materials.

With the increasing awareness of the need for conservation of the global environment, rail travel has again attracted attention for its low energy consumption and CO2 emissions, which result in smaller environmental footprints. The demand for rolling stocks and parts is also increasing in overseas markets, especially in Europe and Asia, due to the active development of railway networks there.
By using technologies developed in the manufacture of various types of electrical wires and cables, Hitachi Cable has manufactured electrical wires and cables for rolling stocks, and which are used for wiring in cars and for on-board devices. Our products are highly rated by our customers for their reliability, and have been adopted for various configurations of electrical wires and cables in Shinkansen trains and trains in local lines and subway lines. They have also gained a leading share (as estimated by Hitachi Cable) in the Japanese market. Since the 1980s, we have also been involved in the manufacture of electrical wires and cables for rolling stocks that are made for the export market. For example, we have supplied electrical wires and cables for high speed rolling stocks in the regions such as U.K., China, Taiwan.

In recent years, it has become more important that parts and materials used in rolling stocks be free of environmental pollutants to further reduce environmental load. There has been an increased demand for halogen-, chlorine-, and bromine-free electrical wires and cables in rolling stocks.

With this in mind, Hitachi Cable is introducing the NH-WEP Series, which comprises halogen-free extra high voltage cables for rolling stocks, and which have been realized using our unique technologies to incorporate covering materials that respond to the recent needs.
The NH-WEP Series comprises rolling stock cables with a rated voltage of 30 kV, and which are expected to be used mainly in high speed rolling stocks. Using technologies that incorporate covering materials that have been developed in the manufacture of various types of electrical wires and cables, and by adopting covering materials such as cross-linked polyolefin, we have succeeded in the production of halogen-free wires and cables with the same features as conventional products, while satisfying the fire resistance, toxicity, and smoke emissions criterion required by the British Standard.

Hitachi Cable is committed to the continued development of improved electrical wires and cables for rolling stocks, and aims to increase the sale of these products by expanding current product lineups.
