Hitachi Cable's AquaVocal all-in-one IP-PBX and WirelessIP5000 wireless IP phone are adopted as communication system in Shimizu Corporation's super high-rise apartment building construction site

*All products of AquaVocal series will end sales on June 30th of 2009.

*Hitachi Cable has announced the end of sale for WirelessIP3000E and WirelessIP5000E-A.

Hitachi Cable, Ltd. announces that its AquaVocal*1all-in-one IP-PBX*2and WirelessIP5000 wireless IP phone have been adopted as the IP telephony system in the construction site of a super high-rise apartment building that Shimizu Corporation (headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; president: Tetsuya Nomura; referred to as Shimizu hereafter) is building.

In recent years, falling prices and advancing functionality of data communication networks have led to rapid growth of IP telephony systems. Hitachi Cable sells the AquaVocal all-in-one IP-PBX series and WirelessIP5000 wireless IP phone series for IP telephony systems. AquaVocal is a single-unit all-in-one IP-PBX providing numerous functions including the basic IP-PBX function and various gateway functions*3and implements an IP telephony system with suppressed cost. WirelessIP5000 is a wireless IP phone, which allows users to use IP phones in a wireless LAN environment.

In a construction site of a super high-rise building, indoor antennas for mobile phones are not installed, so that mobile phone communication is often out of service at underground workplaces or workplaces at or above 100 m. Thus, there is a demand for a low-cost communication system that can provide quick communication wherever the users may be in the construction site solely during the construction period.

This was the reason behind the introduction, by Shimizu, of a wireless IP telephony system at the construction site of the super high-rise apartment building instead of mobile phones. Shimizu has adopted Hitachi Cable's AquaVocal IP-PBX with compatible wireless IP phones: Hitachi Cable's WirelessIP5000 and NTT DoCoMo's N900iL FOMA(R)/wireless LAN dual terminal*4.

AquaVocal is installed in the office building at the construction site. AquaVocal connects Hitachi Cable's Apresia*5L2 Ethernet switch and wireless LAN access points placed on each floor from the underground floor to the above ground floors in the super high-rise apartment building being constructed. This system provides communication with the wireless IP phones anywhere in the construction site and implements a low initial cost IP telephony system.

The system has increased the communication between the workers at the construction site, which has dramatically improved the work efficiency. Further, the wireless IP phones and the phones in the construction office are connected as internal phones without requiring communication cost, which has also reduced the running cost.

Placing AquaVocal upstream of the existing PBX used in the construction office has enabled continued use of the existing analog phone line. As such, the system also has the resistance against failures in the IP telephony service, with its capability of sending and receiving calls through the public telephone line with the existing PBX connected to AquaVocal.

Hitachi Cable continues to respond to our customer's needs to increase its share in the VoIP-related products.

*3In addition to the IP-PBX function, AquaVocal is equipped with various gateway functions (protocol conversion for connecting different networks, including communications carriers, IP telephony networks, the public telephone network, and the internal telephone network); the PPPoE (Point to Point Protocol over Ethernet: permits use of PPP over Ethernet networks; the PPP protocol is used to link computers to networks over telephone lines); and a survival function that allows sending and receiving between analog phones and the public network even during power failures.
