Hitachi Cable Verifies Compatibility of WirelessIP5000 with PBX/IP-PBX Systems from Avaya, Cisco, and Nortel via SHOUTip

*Hitachi Cable has announced the end of sale for WirelessIP3000E and WirelessIP5000E-A.

Hitachi Cable has performed extensive testing to verify the compatibility of its wireless IP phone, "WirelessIP5000" with the PBX/IP-PBX *1 system made by Avaya Inc., Cisco Systems, Inc. (both U.S.-based companies), and Nortel Networks (headquarters: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo) via SHOUTip, a media gateway sold by NextCom K.K. (headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Shigeru Yamamoto). This testing confirms that users of any PBX/IP-PBX product can use WirelessIP5000 without setting up a separate SIP server *2.

Falling prices and the growing sophistication of data communications services in recent years have led to the rapid proliferation of IP phones, which allow users to make phone calls through an Internet technology called VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol). Increasing numbers of companies are adopting wireless LANs to create so called non-territorial offices, which frees employees from assignment to specific desks and reduces the cost of wiring required by changes in office layouts. All these trends are creating growing demand for a solution that would allow use of IP phones in the wireless LAN environment.

To meet this demand, we offer wireless IP phone, the WirelessIP5000. WirelessIP5000 complies with SIP (a de facto standard VoIP communication protocol in Japan). The open design of wireless IP phone, the WirelessIP5000 makes it compatible with SIP servers from multiple vendors. To facilitate adoption of this IP phone, we are currently seeking to extend its compatibility with IP centrex services and SIP servers in cooperation with carriers and server manufacturers.

Hitachi Cable and NextCom performed testing to verify the compatibility of WirelessIP5000 and SHOUTip, a gateway produced by Network Equipment Technologies, Inc. and sold by NextCom. Using this gateway, we verified compatibility between the WirelessIP5000 and the PBX/IP-PBX systems produced by Avaya, Cisco, and Nortel. The results confirm that the WirelessIP5000 can connect not only to SIP servers but also to PBX/IP-PBX systems that do not support SIP, meaning current users of PBX/IP-PBX products can use the WirelessIP5000 without installing a separate SIP server *3.
WirelessIP5000 is available primarily through our sales partners. By expanding joint efforts with various partners and manufacturers of SIP servers, IP phone-related equipment, and applications, we are seeking to increase our WirelessIP5000 market share for wireless IP phones.

*1 PBX is an acronym for private branch exchange. An IP-PBX is a PBX for IP phones.
*2 A telephone exchange that uses a communications control protocol called SIP (Session Initiation Protocol).
*3 You must have a maintenance contract with NextCom to use this solution with your PBX/IP-PBX. For more information, please contact NextCom.
