Wireless IP phone, "WirelessIP5000" Set Supports NTT Communications' ".Phone IP Centrex" Mobile IP Centrex

*Hitachi Cable has announced the end of sale for WirelessIP3000E and WirelessIP5000E-A.

Hitachi Cable, Ltd. has announceed that its wireless IP phone, "WirelessIP5000" now supports the ".Phone IP Centrex" IP Centrex service for businesses from NTT Communications Ltd. ("NTT Com," headquartered in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Hiromi Wasai) beginning Friday, November 18, 2005.

Recent years have witnessed the rapid penetration of IP telephones, which enable voice calls by means of VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) Internet technology, accompanied by increasing price reductions and the growing sophistication of data communication networks. Businesses wishing to introduce IP phone have several choices: for example, the user may install an IP phone exchange or other devices on an individual basis or subscribe to a communication operator's IP Centrex service. Subscription to such a service eliminates the need for the user to install equipment such as an IP phone exchange on its own, minimizing introduction costs and allowing medium- and small-scale offices to introduce IP telephony with ease.

Our wireless IP phone, ''WirelessIP5000'' set is not only compliant with SIP (for Session Initiation Protocol, a de facto standard VoIP communication protocol in Japan), but its open construction makes it connectable to SIP servers from multiple suppliers. The phone set incorporates a variety of functions, including an auto-roaming feature *1, a dynamic network binding (DNB) feature *2, and a web authentication feature expected to be incorporated in public wireless LAN locations in the future. These features have been very well-received, leading to a strong record of orders to date, including several thousand units for businesses.

NTT Com already provides ".Phone IP Centrex" as an IP Centrex service. As our WirelessIP5000 supports this service, solutions are now available to potential customers considering the introduction of Mobile IP Centrex *3.

In response, we have added functions equivalent to those of existing fixed IP phones to WirelessIP5000 to make full use of the features of ".Phone IP Centrex". For incoming calls, up to three numbers, one dial-in number, and two group incoming numbers can be used. If an incoming call is made to each of these numbers at the same time, the user can select and pick up the desired call. For holding and transferring calls, in addition to conventional call transfer after selection from the address book, one-touch transfer to a registered number is also possible.

We are marketing WirelessIP5000 through our sales partners. As WirelessIP5000 now supports NTT Com's ".Phone IP Centrex", we intend work even harder to expand our share of the SIP-compliant wireless IP phone market.

*1 As the WirelessIP5000 terminal is in motion, this feature determines radio-wave strength from access points and error status during communication, automatically switching connection to the optimal access point.
*2 This feature allows for the automatic establishment of connections with various wireless LAN access points-from headquarters to branch offices and homes, for example, and from future outdoor wireless LAN locations-despite variations in the network environment.
*3 An outline and details of ".Phone IP Centrex" are available on the following website:http://www.ntt.com/centrex/
For wireless LAN switches and access points, operational compatibility has been confirmed for products from Aruba Wireless Networks, Inc.
