Financing for South Korean Wireless LAN Antenna Manufacturer
-Strengthening Wireless LAN Operations-

Hitachi Cable, Ltd. has announced plans to invest in EMC TECH CO., LTD. (hereinafter called ''EMC''), a South Korean venture company that makes and sells high-performance antennas for wireless LANs. Hitachi Cable has reached a partnership agreement with EMC to develop and sell wireless LAN-related products, a partnership expected to strengthen Hitachi Cable's wireless LAN operations in both South Korea and Japan.

To boost high-frequency and wireless system operations, Hitachi Cable is focusing its efforts on the wireless LAN segment, which it sees as a third pillar alongside its mobile phone base station antenna system and broadcasting antenna system segments. Mobile phone networks are currently shifting from 2nd to 3.5th generation technology (the mobile internet), a trend especially marked in South Korea, a world-leading market for broadband wireless LANs. Additional services scheduled for rollout in 2006 are expected to create high demand for antennas and related components.

In step with these trends, Hitachi Cable will reinforce its antenna-related business segments in partnership with EMC. Offering proprietary technologies related to the design of compact high-gain antennas, EMC has been selected as a supplier of wireless LAN antennas by major South Korean carriers, including Korea Telecom. For the time being, both companies will continue to work on the development and sale of wireless LAN access points and related products that are expected to be in great demand in South Korea. Hitachi Cable also plans to adopt EMC's technologies to develop indoor/outdoor access points for next-generation wireless LANs at a relatively early date to promote expanded sales in both the South Korean and Japanese markets.

The development and sale of these products is expected to drive up sales of wireless LAN-related business to 4 billion yen annually by Fiscal year 2006.
