Hitachi Cable (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. is the first cable manufacturing plant in Singaporeto be awarded the ISO 14001 Certificate.

Hitachi Cable (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. (HCS) has recently been awarded the ISO 14001 certification by British Approval Services for Cable (BASEC).

The ISO 14001 Certificate, governed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), is recognition of an internationally standardized environmental management system. This Standard promotes the creation of an environmental management system aimed at continually encouraging environmental improvements and therefore has strict criteria for the enterprises concerned.

In recent years many companies world wide have sought the 14001 certification. In October 1997 HCS commenced the process of application for certification. The BASEC Judgment Committee deliberated in September and awarded certification. This marks the first such certification in the cable industry in Singapore. However, it is not the first award for HCS, being awarded the ISO 9002 Certification in 1992.

HCS was established in 1974 as Hitachi Cable's first overseas subsidiary with the purpose of producing magnet wires and wires with terminal processing. Now, HCS continues to expand it's production into such areas as semiconductor packaging materials and plays a most active role in Southeast Asia as a member of the Hitachi Cable group.

Being an internationally recognized certification, the ISO 14001 will enable HCS establish a global systematic environmental management system, meaning that society and enterprise as a whole can contribute to protecting the world environment.

Moreover, our works in Japan (Hitachi-shi, Ibaraki Prefecture), have previously been awarded the ISO 14001 Certification by Japan Environmental Certification Organization Ltd. (JACO).
