Our Toyoura Works is the first cable factory in Japan to be awarded the ISO14001 certificate.
(Also granted to Hitachi Cable Assemblies, Ltd. & Hitachi Fine Wire, Ltd.).

Our Toyoura Works ( Hitachi-shi, Ibaraki, Japan. General manager: Mr. Masahiro Sakamoto)has been awarded the ISO 14001 Certification by Japan Environmental Certification Organization Ltd. (JACO).

ISO 14001 is an internationally standardized environmental management system awarded by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). This Standard, spells the creation of an environmental management system aimed at continually promoting environmental improvements and therefore has strict requirements for the enterprises concerned. In recent years many companies have started to be awarded the 14001 certification. In April 1996 the Toyoura Works and our subsidiaries: Hitachi Cable Assemblies, Ltd. & Hitachi Fine Wire, Ltd., started the process of applying for certification. In November documents were inspected and in December the initial assessment took place. After they passed the final assessment this January, the JACO Judgment Committee deliberated in February and conceded to award them certification. This marks the first such certification in the Cable Industry in Japan.

The Toyoura Works was established in 1966 for the purpose of producing copper wire rods for use in wire & cable material. Now it continues to expand it's production base into areas such as bare copper wiring, enamel wiring and aluminum wiring etc. Hitachi Cable Assemblies, Ltd. & Hitachi Fine Wire, Ltd. produce cable for electrical apparatus use etc. and ultra-fine copper wire etc. respectively.

The Toyoura Works has put the protection of the environment high on it's priority list and has actively sought to improve environmental standards ever since its establishment. In recent years it has started to become especially involved with: the total abolishment of CFC's, aiming to prevent global warming by saving energy and recycling. It has been actively considering everything from it's own regional environment right through to the whole world's environment. Because the ISO 14001 is an internationally recognized Certification, it will make the establishment of a systematic environmental management system possible, meaning that society and developing enterprises as a whole can contribute to protecting the world environment.

Moreover, our other works: Densen Works, Hitaka Works, Takasago Works and Minato Works(Hitachi-shi, Ibaraki), are currently being assessed for the certification of ISO 14001. In terms of the certification it is still early days but nevertheless we are directing our energy positively.
